Meanwhile, back in Portland, plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose
Yesterday our nihilists celebrated the inauguration of Joe Biden by attacking police and vandalizing Democratic Party of Oregon headquarters in NE Portland. About 150 people took part, smashing windows and spray-painting anarchist symbols at the building. Eight arrests were made.
Reuters identified the participants as antigovernment and antifascist protesters who marched under a banner that read "We don’t want Biden. We want revenge for police murders, imperialist wars, and fascist massacres." An AP report published at The Guardian characterized them as "mostly leftwing and anarchist protesters." In other words, the usual suspects.
This kind of thing does not approach the level of what went down in Washington DC on January 6. It is nonetheless insidious. No less insidious is the tacit collaboration of liberals and progressives who habitually avert their gaze when property destruction and violence are committed on behalf of causes they support.
I suppose we need more social workers.
